Technology In The Classroom and How it Can

Help You

Technology in Class

Technology has allowed students to know learn more than ever before. There are millions and billions of links, websites, and databases containing meaningful information. This technology creates opportunity for students to learn at their own pace in online classes. These classes also provide students opportunity to learn from where ever they are whenever they are.

An article from Purdue University titled How Has Technology Changed Education: states "However, in many ways, technology has profoundly changed education. For one, technology has greatly expanded access to education. In medieval times, books were rare and only an elite few had access to educational opportunities. Individuals had to travel to centers of learning to get an education. Today, massive amounts of information (books, audio, images, videos) are available at one’s fingertips through the Internet, and opportunities for formal learning are available online worldwide through the Khan Academy, MOOCs, podcasts, traditional online degree programs, and more. Access to learning opportunities today is unprecedented in scope thanks to technology (Purdue 2)." Search engines such as Google or Bing can link a student to almost any topic in the world, further making it easier to learn and grow as a student in this modern age.

About

The benefits of learning online

Learning online can benefit a student in many ways. These classes can appeal to ones schedule and the student will not have to travel if they do not have their license or method of transportation. Learning at home can allow a student to learn in a comfortable environment for maximum focus and concentration. The US Department of Education writes "Online learning opportunities and the use of open educational resources and other technologies can increase educational productivity by accelerating the rate of learning; reducing costs associated with instructional materials or program delivery; and better utilizing teacher time." Students can call and chat with a teacher if help is needed, giving a more one on one experience than what comes from a classroom with sometimes more than 40 student to one teacher.

How technology benefits society

Technology not only benefits the classroom, it benefits society in general. Technology has made communication easier than ever through social media and apps such as Facebook. Platforms such as YouTube and Xbox allow for easy entertainment and communication with friends as there are many video and video games available. Technology has also helped small businesses evolve and expand quickly. "The use of social networking, video conferencing, virtual office tools and other such techniques have removed all boundaries, which, in the past, prevented growth. Thanks to technology; businesses, small and large, can reach a wider customer base and grow and expand. (ImportanceOfTechnology.com)."

Technology overall creates a much more powerful society, that is connected and prepared with the skills they need to get information for themselves. It connects students, teachers, friends, family, co-workers, and bosses. Entertaining and educating without technology our society would not be as smart, civilized and advanced as it is today.
